Overview & Instructions

This is a review activity. We are going to use desirable difficulty and active learning to make the music video more effective.

  1. Read the ENTIRE lyrics, from bottom to top, resisting the urge to start filling blanks.
  2. Then come back to the first verse. Verse by verse, fill blanks that you 'got automatically', either from context or recall.
  3. Then do focus on specific verses.
  4. Remember to pay careful attention to context. Often the line is enough context for the word if you have it in long term memory already, but if it's a word you're still trying to transfer from short-term, you might need the whole verse. Look for rhymes; this song rhymes at the end of lines in couplets. Look for terms that re-appear and are associated with blanks.
  5. Finally, check the list of numbered hints and/or ask Metcalf or a peer for support.
  6. After you have attempted EVERY blank, and left potentially-synonym like answers in the blanks you did not know, watch the video.
  7. If you intend to take notes, take notes only on what you struggled with most. The most valuable use of your time for this activity is to replay it later with the time you would have otherwise done taking notes.
  8. The password to start the bookwidget is the last word of the third instruction.

Earning a Complete

  • Upload the completed PDF.
  • Then, in the text-box, provide feedback:
    • Strongly Agree-Strongly Disagree scale for enjoyment.
    • Copy-paste the objectives from alignment list at top of page, and highlight:  GREEN for (feeling exceptionally competent), BLUE for (feeling mostly competent), YELLOW for (feeling pretty wobbly and not so great like a phospholipid), RED for (I do not recognize this objective).
